Tesla Issues Recall for 3,800 Cybertrucks Due to Potential Acceleration Hazard.

Electric vehicle giant Tesla is recalling 3,878 Cybertruck vehicles due to concerns of unintentional acceleration.

The Issue

The company has identified a potential problem with the accelerator pedal pad on the affected vehicles. The pedal may dislodge and become trapped by the interior trim above the pedal, causing the vehicle to accelerate without the driver intending to. However, the vehicle will stop once the brake pedal is applied.

Solution

To resolve the issue, Tesla will replace or repair the accelerator pedal assembly free of charge to the customer.

Incidents and Injuries

The company is not aware of any collisions or injuries relating to the pedal issue identified.

Production and Delivery Changes

Tesla is now equipping Cybertrucks in production with new accelerator pedals. Vehicles in the process of delivery but yet to reach the customer will receive the remedy before being handed over.

Impact

The recall likely impacts a majority of the Cybertruck vehicles delivered by Tesla to date. While the company does not release model-wise delivery numbers, research suggests that the affected vehicles represent a significant portion of the total delivered.

Background

Earlier this week, it was reported that Tesla had briefly halted Cybertruck deliveries due to potential issues with the pickup truck’s accelerator pedal. CEO Elon Musk later clarified that the move was precautionary, stating, “There were no injuries or accidents because of this. We are just being very cautious.”
