Tesla's Cybertruck May Adopt Traditional Controls, Says Ross Gerber

Tesla Inc. is considering a significant design change to its highly anticipated Cybertruck, which is slated to begin production next year. The company may add traditional vehicle controls, including a steering wheel, to the Cybertruck.

Tesla Open to Traditional Controls

In a recent interview, Tesla’s Chair of the Board of Directors, Robyn Denholm, stated that the company is open to the idea of the Cybertruck having traditional vehicle controls. “If we have to have a steering wheel, it can have a steering wheel and pedals,” Denholm said. She also suggested that the Cybertruck could be Tesla’s Model 2, a more affordable offering that would sit below the Model 3 in the company’s lineup.

Ross Gerber’s Suggestion

The news comes after Ross Gerber, co-founder of investment firm Gerber Kawasaki, suggested that Tesla could add a steering wheel and pedals to the existing Cybertruck platform to sell it as an affordable model. Gerber tweeted, “Take the gold cab. Put a steering wheel in it. Charge $30k for a gold 2 door Tesla.” Following Denholm’s comments, Gerber took to social media to express his thoughts, stating, “Looks like Tesla is coming around to reality. They need to sell this car to people.”

Cybertruck Testing and Production

The Cybertruck has been spotted testing on multiple occasions at Tesla’s Gigafactory in Texas and its facility in Fremont, California. Meanwhile, Tesla CEO Elon Musk has walked back his promise to serve 50% of the US population with Robotaxis by the end of 2025, now aiming for deployment of the service in 8-10 major cities.

Tesla’s Future Plans

Tesla scores well on Momentum and Quality metrics, while offering satisfactory Growth, but poor Value. The company has a favorable price trend in the Short, Medium, and Long term. As Tesla continues to evolve and expand its product lineup, it will be interesting to see how the company balances innovation with consumer demand.
