Ross Gerber Claims Tesla FSD v14 Struggles with Rainy Conditions Due to Camera Debris Detection Issue

Investor Ross Gerber, co-founder of Gerber Kawasaki, has shared his latest experiences with Tesla Inc.‘s Full Self-Driving (FSD) system. Despite praise from experts, Gerber’s experience with the FSD 14.2.1.25 update on his Cybertruck was less than ideal.

FSD Doesn’t Work Well in Rain

Gerber took to social media to share his experience with the FSD system in rainy conditions. He posted a photograph of the FSD system screen, which displayed a prompt saying “Autopilot Visibility Limited” and urged the occupant to clear the dirt or debris on the FSD camera. However, Gerber noted that there was no dirt, just rain.

“Not sure of Tesla’s plans if FSD doesn’t work well in rain or direct sunlight…”

“There is no dirt. It’s just rain.”

Gerber asked other users to try the system in the rain for themselves. This comes as a surprise, given that Gerber had earlier hailed the improvements made by Tesla to the FSD system with the v14 update.

Elon Musk’s Claims of Autonomous Driving

The comments come as Tesla CEO Elon Musk recently shared that he was driven autonomously by the company’s Robotaxi in Austin. Musk claimed that a Tesla with no safety monitor in the car took him all around Austin. This would take Tesla closer to Musk’s end-of-year timeline of deploying driverless operations in Austin.

Tesla’s Progress and Challenges

A Tesla Robotaxi was recently spotted testing autonomously in Austin. While Tesla has made significant progress in autonomous driving, the company still faces challenges in certain conditions, such as rain and direct sunlight.

Current Price and Performance

TSLA slid 0.11% to $485.03 at market close during the after-hours trading session. Tesla scores well on Momentum and Quality metrics but offers poor Value.
