Ross Gerber: Tesla's Affordable Model Rumors Are Just a Cybercab With a Steering Wheel

Investor Ross Gerber of Gerber Kawasaki believes that Tesla’s rumored affordable model would essentially be a Cybercab with a steering wheel.

A Cybercab With A Steering Wheel

In a recent post, Gerber referenced a report about a possible affordable vehicle being developed by the EV giant. He expressed skepticism about Tesla’s potential pivot, stating, “A Tesla cybercab with a steering wheel… they’ll say anything at this point…”

Gerber has previously suggested that Tesla could release an affordable model by adding a steering wheel and pedals to the Cybercab. He proposed, “Take the gold cab. Put a steering wheel in it. Charge $30k for a gold 2 door tesla.”

The rumored affordable model could be 14 feet long, feature a trimmed-down battery capacity, and be significantly lighter than Tesla’s current Model Y and Model 3 vehicles.

FSD Refunds and Market Views

Gerber has also voiced criticism of Tesla’s Full Self-Driving (FSD) system, suggesting that the company should initiate $10,000 refunds for customers who bought the technology if the latest update does not offer unsupervised autonomous driving capabilities.

Meanwhile, investor Gary Black, a managing partner at The Future Fund LLC, attributes Tesla’s declining stock price to disappointing Q1 2026 delivery figures and concerns about the Robotaxi service.

The upcoming Cybercab is expected to be available for $30,000 or less, according to CEO Elon Musk. The vehicle will feature no steering wheel or pedals, with production scheduled to begin this month.
