Tesla’s artificial intelligence lead, Ashok Elluswamy, has expressed confidence in the company’s new Optimus humanoid robot, following the halt of Model S and X production at the Fremont facility.
Big Shoes to Fill
The Model S and X production lines have been decommissioned, making way for the new Optimus robot production. Elluswamy stated, “Big shoes to fill, but I’m confident Optimus will not disappoint!!”
Background
Earlier, Tesla CEO Elon Musk announced that the first production line for Optimus had been successfully put in place at the facility. Tesla’s VP of Vehicle Engineering, Lars Moravy, also mentioned that the automaker could see up to 40 production lines for the Robot, due to its complex design.
Expected Impact of Optimus
Musk has said that the humanoid Robot would enable greater access to “excellent” healthcare for people, touting the robot as being able to provide for people’s health needs via artificial intelligence.
